Frequently Asked Questions!

Q: When are you open?
A: Year round. Hours of operation change with the season so just drop us an e-mail.

Q: Do you ship? How much does it cost?
A: Yes, we ship anywhere. The cost of shipping within continental North America is 15% with a minimum charge of $ 20.00 per address. Europe and other destinations can be quoted on request. Occasionally additional charges are required for oversized items.

Q: I visited your shop and wish I would have purchased an item. Can I order it?
A: Yes, just phone or e-mail Diane with a rough description of the piece. She has been selecting our collections since 1983 and solves most inquires. We carry an extensive inventory year round and would be pleased to ship the item to you.

Q:What types of wood do you work with?
A: Birdseye Maple, Black Walnut, Cherry, Mahogany, Red Oak and Curly Maple are our favourites. Some work is also done in various burls when available.

Q: Where do the woods come from?
A: Our main source of lumber is the Maritime provinces which provides us with all of our birdseye maple. Other woods are imported from Upper Canada which are sourced throughout North America and abroad.

Q: What is Birdseye Maple?
A: Birdseye maple is actually not a type of tree but it is a condition that occurs in the hard maple tree. When the tree is very young it is attacked by a virus. As the tree grows the grain of the wood forms the interesting “birdseyes” which are similar in shape to the eyes of birds.

Q: How long has he been a woodworker and where did he learn his craft?
A: Jacques began woodworking in 1978 training at the School of Visual Arts and many workshops over the years.
